Rubbish Clearance FAQs

If you have never booked a clearance before and still want reassurance, you can always ask us directly about your specific situation. our main how our rubbish clearance service works guide is the best place to start. so you can see, in one place, how pricing works, what access we need, how parking and council permits are handled, One of the most common questions is about what we take and what we cannot take, especially for mixed loads and awkward items. and what happens to your rubbish afterwards.

These rubbish removal FAQs apply to most jobs we do in London and Surrey, from one-off household collections to full house clearances and small commercial clear-outs. If you do not see your question answered here, you can always call and ask us directly.

Booking and quotes – common rubbish clearance FAQs

Do I need to send photos before I get a quote?
No. We are happy to work from a good description over the phone. For most jobs, we can give an accurate quote or price range as soon as you tell us roughly how much you have, what type of items they are and where they are in the property. If something is unusual or very large, Timing is another common topic, so our same day rubbish removal page may help if the clearance is urgent.

Is the quote I get on the phone fixed?
In most cases, yes, as long as the job on the day matches what you described. If we arrive and the volume or type of waste is very different, the crew will explain this and confirm a revised price before starting. Our rubbish clearance FAQs always come back to the same principle: no surprises once loading begins.

Can I get a quote for house clearance over the phone?
Yes. Many house clearance FAQs are about how we price full properties. If you can tell us how many rooms need clearing, what kind of items are left (furniture, clothes, appliances, general clutter) and the access, we can usually give you a clear price or realistic range on that first call.

How far in advance do I need to book?
If your date is flexible, a few days’ notice is ideal. If you need urgent clearance – for example, before tenants move in or before completion – call as soon as you know. Same-day or next-day slots are often possible, but they depend on how busy we are and where you are based.

Cost and payment – rubbish clearance answers

How do you work out the cost of rubbish clearance?
The main factors are:

  • How much space your waste takes in the vehicle
  • The type of waste (light household items versus heavy rubble or soil)
  • How easy or difficult it is to access and load
  • Your location and any parking costs

We charge for the overall load, including labour, transport and disposal. These rubbish clearance FAQs are here to make that clear so you understand why one job might cost more than another.

Do you charge extra for heavy materials?
Sometimes. Very heavy waste such as bricks, soil, concrete or tiles is more expensive to dispose of than light, mixed household rubbish. If your job includes a lot of heavy material, tell us when you call so we can ask a few waste collection questions and explain how that affects the price.

Is VAT included in your quote?
We will always make it clear whether VAT is included when we give you a price by phone. If you are a business or landlord and need a VAT invoice, just tell us when you call so we can make sure the details are correct.

Do you charge extra for evenings or weekends?
It depends on the time slot and the size of the job. Standard rubbish clearance FAQs on timing are best answered by phone, because our schedule changes every day. If there is any difference in price for very late or weekend work, we will explain it clearly before you confirm the booking.

How and when do I pay?
Payment is usually taken once the work is complete and you are happy with what has been done. We explain accepted payment methods when you book. The aim of these rubbish clearance answers is to keep everything straightforward: clear price, clear work, clear payment.

Access, parking and council permits

What sort of access do you need?
We can handle most typical situations: ground floor homes, upper floor flats, lofts, basements, garages, gardens and small commercial units. The key access rubbish clearance FAQs are:

  • Can we park reasonably close to the property?
  • Are there stairs, narrow corridors or very tight doorways?
  • Is there a lift and is it working?

The more you can tell us about access on the phone, the better we can plan and quote.

Do I need to arrange parking for you?
If your street or building has controlled parking, it helps if you can tell us what restrictions apply. Sometimes customers can arrange visitor permits or a temporary pass; sometimes we pay and include it within the final charge. These rubbish removal FAQs vary by area, so the best approach is to call, explain the parking situation and we will agree a plan.

Do I need a council permit for rubbish clearance?
For normal man-and-van jobs, a separate street skip permit is usually not needed because we are not leaving a skip on the road. If a permit is ever required for your specific scenario, we will explain this on the phone. Most of the time, our rubbish clearance FAQs on permits can be answered with “no, not for a standard collection”.

Can you work in flats with no lift?
Yes, as long as it is safe for the crew to carry items down the stairs. When you call, mention which floor you are on and how many flights there are. We will factor that into the quote and loading time.

What we can and cannot take

What types of items do you take?
Common items include:

  • General household rubbish and black bags
  • Furniture, mattresses and carpets
  • Appliances and white goods (already disconnected)
  • Garden waste and outdoor items
  • DIY waste and small amounts of rubble
  • Office furniture, stock and shop fittings

Many rubbish clearance FAQs are simply “can you take this?”. If it is normal household or office content, the answer is almost always yes.

Are there things you cannot take?
Yes. Typical examples include:

  • Asbestos in any form
  • Gas bottles and cylinders
  • Petrol, diesel and other fuels
  • Large amounts of chemicals, acids or solvents
  • Clinical, medical or biological waste
  • Firearms, ammunition or explosives

These are outside standard rubbish clearance answers and require specialist hazardous waste services. If you suspect any of these are present, tell us when you call.

Can you take paint, oil and chemicals?
Small amounts of everyday cleaning products are usually fine. Paint and stronger chemicals are more complicated. Some dried-out paint tins may be acceptable, but large volumes of liquid paint, oils and solvents are not. Because this is one of the more technical rubbish removal FAQs, we always advise calling so we can give a job-specific answer.

Do you take fridges, freezers and other appliances?
Yes, we regularly take fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, microwaves and similar appliances, as long as they are disconnected and safe to move. These are covered by WEEE rules, so they go through approved recycling routes rather than general landfill.

House clearance FAQs – whole properties and part clearances

Can you clear an entire house or flat?
Yes. Many of our house clearance FAQs come from people who need a full property cleared after a sale, a move or a bereavement. We can clear furniture, clothing, kitchen contents, lofts, garages and gardens as part of a single project, as long as everything is safe to move and dispose of.

Do I need to box everything before a house clearance?
No. If you want to pack items to make the process more organised, that can help, but it is not essential. As long as you can show us what needs to go and what must stay, the crew can bag and box loose items as part of the job.

Can you provide house clearance for landlords at short notice?
Often, yes. Many house clearance FAQs relate to end-of-tenancy situations. If former tenants have left belongings or rubbish behind, call and explain the condition of the property and your deadline. We can then suggest urgent rubbish clearance or a next available slot, depending on the scale.

What about sensitive situations such as bereavement or hoarded homes?
We understand these jobs can be difficult. When you call, let us know if the property is especially sensitive so we can take extra care with communication, timing and how we work on site. Some questions relate more to larger property jobs, so if you are really looking for house clearance FAQs, our main house clearance page is also useful.

Business and commercial rubbish removal FAQs

Do you work for offices, shops and small businesses?
Yes. Our rubbish clearance FAQs also cover commercial work. We regularly clear:

  • Office furniture and filing cabinets
  • Shop fittings, shelving and stock
  • Café and small restaurant items
  • Light warehouse and storage contents

If you have specific compliance or access requirements, tell us when you call and we can build that into the plan.

Can you provide paperwork for business or council jobs?
We can provide invoices and, where appropriate, basic waste documentation. If you have particular requirements for your audit trail, mention them during the booking so we can give you accurate rubbish clearance answers and prepare what you need.

Do you offer regular collections for businesses?
In some cases, yes, particularly for small to medium businesses that need occasional larger collections alongside any regular bin service they already have. For jobs where access, permits or loading are a concern, our page on rubbish removal versus skip hire is also worth reading.

On-the-day questions – what happens when the team arrives

Do I need to be there in person?
Where possible, yes, especially at the start and end of the visit. You need to show the crew what should go and what must stay, and it is helpful if you are there to confirm you are happy once the work is done. In some landlord or agent situations, we can work to clear instructions without you on site, but that should be agreed in advance.

How long will my clearance take?
The answer to most timing-related rubbish clearance FAQs is “it depends on size and access”. Small one-room jobs can be completed very quickly; full house clearances take longer. When you call, we will give an estimated duration based on your description.

Do I have to help with lifting?
No. Part of our service is providing the labour. You do not need to lift or carry anything – in fact, it is usually safer if you simply direct the crew and let them handle the physical work.

What if I realise there is more rubbish than I first thought?
If there are a few extra items and they fit in the original load, the crew may be able to include them without changing the price. If the volume is significantly higher, they will explain any revised cost before taking anything extra. Honest, up-front discussion is the principle behind all our rubbish clearance answers.

What happens to my rubbish after collection?

Do you recycle my waste?
Yes, wherever practical. Our rubbish removal FAQs always stress that your waste goes to licensed facilities. There, it is sorted and managed so that recyclable materials can be separated and processed, and non-recyclable fractions are dealt with safely.

Will my items be reused or donated?
Some items are suitable for reuse or donation, depending on condition and current local options. We cannot guarantee that every single item will be reused, but where we can divert decent furniture and goods from disposal, we do so. If there is anything you particularly hope will be donated, mention it when you call and we will advise what is realistic.

Can you guarantee nothing will be fly-tipped?
Yes. We are a licensed carrier and take waste to authorised facilities. Responsible disposal is a core part of our rubbish clearance FAQs and day-to-day practice. You should always use a carrier who can give you clear rubbish clearance answers about where your waste goes.

Can I get proof of disposal?
For many domestic jobs, the invoice and booking record are enough. If you are a landlord, business or managing agent who needs more formal evidence, tell us when you book so we can discuss what paperwork is appropriate for your job.

We used this company on recommendation of another trade that we trust, so I was confident they would do a good job. Rob responded to my message, visited to give a quote and was able to remove our waste on the same day. We agreed payment by bank transfer. We had a large job of old flooring, fencing and general household waste. Rob did the work quickly and efficiently and left our front garden looking the best it has done in weeks. Overall, he did a great job for us and also really appreciated how friendly and professional they were too. Would happily recommend and If we need a pickup in the future he would be the first person we would call.

We used Rob to dissemble, and remove our garden shed, as well as a few other garden items. He was professional, diligent, earnest and really lovely to work with. Reasonably priced too! He worked incredibly hard to sort out quite a complicated setup, and was very transparent - explaining everything to us as he was going along. Couldn’t recommend him enough and will deffo be using him again in the future. Thanks Rob!

I never met Rob in person but that did not take away from the quality of the service provided. I contacted Rob to ask if he could remove a green house from a property we had just purchased (but were not yet living in). He asked for a day or two to check his schedule and confirm his availability. Rob then got back to me the next day and said he could be there the following morning. I was not able to meet him but I said he could let himself into the back yard. He contacted me the next day from the property, provided me with a quote (which I thought was very reasonable), then started with the work immediately. He then contacted me a few hours later, sent me some before and after photos, and that was that. Fast, efficient, well priced, professional, and excellent communication. I am sure I will be using his services going forward and highly recommend these as well. Thank you Rob.
