Rubbish Removal Prices & Load Sizes

When you book a clearance, you want to know roughly what it will cost before anyone turns up. This page explains how our rubbish removal prices work, how load sizes and van space affect rubbish clearance cost, and why a man and van service is often better value than hiring a skip for rubbish clearance in South London.

We keep our rubbish removal prices simple, honest and load-based. You pay for the space your waste takes in the vehicle, the time it reasonably takes to load, and any necessary disposal charges for unusually heavy or specialist items. There are no surprise extras added after the job.

For an exact figure, the best step is always to call us, especially if you need a quicker booking or urgent collection slot. On the phone we can look at your situation, explain how our rubbish removal prices apply, and give you a clear guide before you decide whether to go ahead.

Registered Waste Carrier & Rubbish Disposal Company

How our rubbish removal prices are calculated

Every clearance is different, but the structure of our rubbish removal prices is always the same. We look at:

  • Load size (van space) – how much of the vehicle your rubbish will use
  • Weight and type of waste – general mixed rubbish versus very heavy or specialist materials
  • Labour and time – how long safe loading is likely to take
  • Access and parking – how easy it is to reach the waste and park nearby

For most household jobs and light commercial jobs, rubbish removal prices follow simple bands, though larger business clearances may need a more tailored quotation. If your job is more like a large office clearance, we usually price it as a separate project rather than a simple van-load collection. If your job is actually a full property clearance, we usually treat that as its own project rather than a standard load-based visit. If your job is more like a full property or large office clearance, our house clearance prices and costs page is the better guide.

We will always talk through your situation on the phone and explain which band your job is likely to fit.

Load sizes and van space explained

Because our rubbish removal prices are based on load size, it helps to think in terms of how much space your waste fills in the vehicle rather than just how many bags you have.

As a rough guide:

  • Small load (up to about ¼ van)
    • A few bulky items, or several bin bags and small pieces of furniture
    • Typical rubbish clearance cost band for single items or very small clearances
  • Medium load (around ½ van)
    • Contents of a small shed, or a mixture of bags, boxes and a couple of larger items
    • Common for modest garden, garage or room clearances
  • Large load (around ¾ van)
    • A substantial pile of mixed waste from one or two rooms, or a larger shed or section of garden
    • Often where full waste removal prices start to apply for bigger domestic jobs
  • Extra-large load (full van)
    • Whole-room or multi-room clearances, or very bulky items filling the vehicle
    • More common for heavy rubbish removal cost London or Surrey jobs where there is a lot to take in one go

On the phone we will ask you to describe roughly how much you have and what type of items are involved, then match that to a suitable load band. That makes your rubbish removal prices much more predictable.

Example rubbish removal price bands

Exact figures vary with disposal charges and fuel costs, so the only way to get a current price is to call. However, the structure of our rubbish removal prices stays consistent, and this table shows the sort of jobs that usually fall into each load band.

Load band

Typical amount of waste

Example jobs

Small load

Up to about ¼ van of light to medium items

Single bulky item, small pile of bags and boxes

Medium load

Around ½ van of mixed household or garden waste

Clear-out of one room, small shed or small garden area

Large load

Around ¾ van of mixed household or light building waste

Several rooms’ worth of clutter or larger garden jobs

Extra-large load

Full van of bulky or mixed waste

Big household clearances or large DIY/renovation jobs

When we talk on the phone, we will explain which band your job is likely to fall into and how that translates into rubbish clearance prices on the day.

What makes rubbish clearance cost more or less

A lot of people assume rubbish removal prices are just about how much you have, but several other things can affect the final figure.

The main factors are:

  • Volume
    • The biggest driver of rubbish clearance cost. More bags, boxes and bulky items mean more van space, and that moves you into a higher band.
  • Weight
    • Very heavy materials (for example, rubble, soil or dense DIY waste) cost more to dispose of than normal household rubbish. Where this affects waste removal prices, we will explain why.
  • Type of items
    • Standard household and garden items fit neatly into normal rubbish removal prices. Certain items, such as mattresses or fridges, may attract additional disposal charges, which we will always flag in advance.
  • Access
    • Ground-floor waste close to the vehicle is faster and cheaper to load than items spread across lofts, cellars and upper floors. If we have to walk significantly further or deal with very tight access, this can modestly affect rubbish clearance prices because of the extra time involved.
  • Parking and restrictions
    • Easy parking right outside your home or property keeps rubbish removal cost London and Surrey jobs lower. If we have to park further away, pay for parking, or work around strict time limits, we will factor that into the estimate.

None of these factors are designed to catch you out. They simply reflect the time, effort and disposal charges involved in each job. We will always explain how they apply to your specific rubbish removal prices when you call.

Man and van rubbish removal cost vs skip hire

Many people compare man and van rubbish removal cost against hiring a skip. This page explains how our rubbish removal prices work, how load sizes and van space affect rubbish clearance cost, and why a man and van service is often better value than hiring a skip for rubbish clearance in Surrey.

Some key differences:

  • You pay for what you actually use
    • With a skip, you pay for the full size even if you only fill half. Our rubbish removal prices are based on actual load, so you are not paying for empty space.
  • Labour is included
    • A skip just sits outside your property. With a man and van service, loading is included in the rubbish clearance cost, so you are not doing the heavy lifting yourself.
  • No skip permits
    • In many parts of London, a skip on the road needs a permit from the council, which adds to the overall waste removal prices and takes time to arrange. A man and van service avoids this completely.
  • Fast removal
    • A skip can sit for days while you fill it. Man and van rubbish removal cost London jobs are usually completed in a single visit, so the waste is gone quickly and your property looks tidy straight away.
  • Space constraints
    • Skips need a suitable space on private land or the road. Man and van services can work where there is no practical place to put a skip, as long as we can reach your property with a vehicle.

For many domestic jobs, man and van rubbish removal cost is not only competitive with skip hire, it is also more convenient and less hassle for you.

How to get an accurate rubbish removal cost over the phone

We do not expect you to measure everything or count every bag. When you call, we will ask a few simple questions so we can give you clear rubbish removal prices without needing a visit first.

Typical questions include:

  • Where is the property (postcode and area)?
  • Is it a house, flat, office, shop or other type of building?
  • Roughly what do you need removed (for example, “a pile of bags and boxes”, “old furniture from the lounge”, “contents of a small shed”)?
  • Where is the waste – ground floor, upstairs, loft, basement, garden?
  • How easy is parking – right outside, nearby, or only on neighbouring streets?

Using your answers, we will match your job to the right load band and explain how that fits our rubbish removal prices. If your job sounds more complex, we might suggest that we refine the rubbish clearance cost once we have talked through a bit more detail, but you will still have a clear guide before you decide.

If, during the call, it sounds like your job is closer to a full property clearance or specialist commercial work, we can also explain how that may move from standard rubbish removal prices into a tailored quote.

Typical jobs and where they sit in our price bands

The examples below are only guides, but they help show how different jobs usually sit within our rubbish removal prices structure:

  • Single bulky item
    • One sofa, wardrobe or appliance
    • Normally a small load band with a lower rubbish clearance cost
  • Small mixed clear-out
    • A few pieces of furniture and a pile of bags from one room
    • Often a small to medium band within our waste removal prices
  • Garage or shed clear-out
    • Contents of a modest garage or garden shed
    • Typically medium to large band, depending on how full it is
  • Pre-move declutter
    • Various items from several rooms, but not a full house clearance
    • Usually somewhere in the medium to large rubbish removal prices range
  • DIY and renovation waste
    • Mixed rubble, timber, packaging and old fittings
    • Band depends on volume and weight; heavy materials can increase rubbish clearance cost slightly compared with standard general waste

When you call, we will compare your job to these types of examples and explain which band it most closely matches.

FAQs about rubbish removal prices & load sizes

Do you have a minimum charge?
Yes. There is a fair minimum charge that covers travel, a set amount of labour and disposal of a small amount of waste. We will always tell you what this is when we explain your rubbish removal prices on the phone.

What if the load is bigger than I thought on the day?
If we arrive and the load is clearly larger than described, we will talk this through before starting. We will explain which higher band it fits and how that changes your rubbish clearance cost, so you can decide whether to proceed, split the job or leave some items for another time.

Are there extra charges for heavy materials?
Sometimes. Very heavy wastes such as soil, rubble or tiles can increase disposal fees and therefore waste removal prices. If you tell us about these materials during the initial call, we can factor them into your rubbish removal prices from the start.

Do house clearance prices work the same way?
The basic principle is the same – volume, time and waste type – but house clearance prices London and Surrey jobs usually involve more planning and labour than a simple load-based collection. That is why we treat them as their own category and explain the rubbish clearance cost for full property work separately.

Is same-day service more expensive?
Where we can, we keep rubbish removal prices the same for same-day or next-day slots, as long as they fall within normal working patterns. If a job requires unusual hours or creates scheduling pressures, we will explain any impact on rubbish removal cost London or Surrey bookings before you decide.

Next steps – call for clear rubbish removal prices

If you are planning a clear-out and want to know exactly what it will cost, the simplest next step is to call us. In one short conversation we can:

  • Explain how our rubbish removal prices and load bands work
  • Match your job to the right band and outline the likely rubbish clearance cost
  • Highlight anything that might affect waste removal prices, such as heavy waste or difficult access
  • Help you decide whether you need standard rubbish removal or a full property or commercial quote

Once you are happy with the figure, we can book a convenient slot and send a local team to carry out the clearance quickly and professionally, with your rubbish removal prices agreed in advance and no surprises at the end.

We used this company on recommendation of another trade that we trust, so I was confident they would do a good job. Rob responded to my message, visited to give a quote and was able to remove our waste on the same day. We agreed payment by bank transfer. We had a large job of old flooring, fencing and general household waste. Rob did the work quickly and efficiently and left our front garden looking the best it has done in weeks. Overall, he did a great job for us and also really appreciated how friendly and professional they were too. Would happily recommend and If we need a pickup in the future he would be the first person we would call.

We used Rob to dissemble, and remove our garden shed, as well as a few other garden items. He was professional, diligent, earnest and really lovely to work with. Reasonably priced too! He worked incredibly hard to sort out quite a complicated setup, and was very transparent - explaining everything to us as he was going along. Couldn’t recommend him enough and will deffo be using him again in the future. Thanks Rob!

I never met Rob in person but that did not take away from the quality of the service provided. I contacted Rob to ask if he could remove a green house from a property we had just purchased (but were not yet living in). He asked for a day or two to check his schedule and confirm his availability. Rob then got back to me the next day and said he could be there the following morning. I was not able to meet him but I said he could let himself into the back yard. He contacted me the next day from the property, provided me with a quote (which I thought was very reasonable), then started with the work immediately. He then contacted me a few hours later, sent me some before and after photos, and that was that. Fast, efficient, well priced, professional, and excellent communication. I am sure I will be using his services going forward and highly recommend these as well. Thank you Rob.
